The PCS certification requires individuals to pass a written examination that covers various aspects of the protective coatings industry, including surface preparation, coating application, inspection, and safety. The examination is designed to test the individual’s knowledge and understanding of best practices and industry standards.

Course Duration
The duration of the SSPC Protective Coatings Specialist (PCS) certification course can vary depending on the individual and the methods of study. The PCS certification program is a self-study program, and individuals can take as much time as they need to prepare for the written examination.
However, the SSPC recommends that individuals allow at least 120 hours of study time to prepare for the PCS examination. This time can be spent reviewing the SSPC Protective Coatings Specialist (PCS) manual, attending relevant courses and workshops, and gaining hands-on experience in the protective coatings industry. The written examination for the PCS certification takes approximately 3 hours to complete, and individuals must pass the examination with a minimum score of 70% to receive their certification.

It’s important to note that the PCS certification is valid for 5 years, after which individuals must re-certify to maintain their certification. The recertification process requires individuals to demonstrate that they have continued to stay up-to-date with the latest developments and best practices in the protective coatings industry.
